A lighter mood
Mali qualified for the African Cup today after a two- nil
victory over Algeria in Bamako this afternoon to the jubilation of the Malian
people. It was about time something
cheerful happened to this bruised nation! Meanwhile all the people held in quarantine in Kayes after the
ebola case of the little girl and the grandmother have been released: noone has been contaminated, Alhamdilullah!
In the region of 500 other people are under surveillance,
all connected to the chain of possible contagion from the cases at the Clinic
Pasteur. No one has developed any symptoms so far. The doctor who had treated the diseased imam
at the Clinic is still ill but in a stable condition. Will Mali be able to
extricate itself from the epidemic? We are holding our breath and praying.
There are the occasional guests here at the hotel so
Dembele and I decided to give the Malinke chambre
superieur a facelift. I think it looks tres jolie, non?

Ah, what nice news about the world cup. I think of you and hope all will be well. The makeover of the room, c'est tres jolie, vraiment.
Last thing I heard on the World Service - the only channel which persuades me to listen to sports news, because of its international perspective - Mali had been defeated in a match, so this is good and will raise morale.
Pretty remarkable that neither Eboli case spread infection. Now they're saying on the radio that West Africa has been much worse hit than previously expected. Hope all round. Lovely lead pic.
Your creative juices are certainly working well despite the 'ebola crisis'. Room looks stunning and very welcoming.
Fingers crossed for Mali. Apparently they are running a trial in Oxford and Switzerland but also in Bamako and for vaccination.Do you know more?
Sophie, GO MALI! Great news about the football! I'm also hoping and praying that the virus has been contained. I'm proud of your creative spirit, the room looks lovely :) G xxx
Its a gorgeous room Sophie and how we hoped to watch Mali win more games at the tournament when it was going to be in Morocco!
We have the wonderful opportunity for a house in the medina for a whole month in Marrakesh and now due to the typically poor machinations of CAF and what we can only view as the racism of the Moroccan authorities (as well as possibly an excuse for unfinished preparations) we'll be in Morocco and the tournament will be in Equatorial Guinea!
Delighted though that guests continue to wing their way to you - only wish it was us...
Dear friends,
Thank you all for encouragement and for looking in!
It is indeed a pity about the cancellation of the African Cup in Morocco, Kim. And about the vaccinations for Ebola Mary- I am aware that there is an important laboratory here doing trial, but know no details...
